The real difference between sheep and goats

The Real Scoop on Sheep vs. Goats at Tammy and Rich's Funny Farm Here at Tammy and Rich's Funny Farm in Livingston, TN, we often get asked, "What's the difference between a sheep and a goat?" I usually kick things off with a little joke: "A sheep says 'Baa,' and a goat says 'Maa!'" It always gets a chuckle, but there’s more to these animals than the sounds they make. Since we raise hair sheep and brush goats, we’ve got a front-row seat to their unique traits. Let’s break down the actual differences between them—beyond the barnyard symphony! Physical Differences Coats: Wool, Hair, and Everything In Between When you picture a sheep, you might imagine a fluffy cloud of wool. But our hair sheep flip that script. Unlike traditional wool sheep that need shearing, hair sheep have sleek, hair-like coats—kind of like goats. Our brush goats, true to goat form, also have hair, not wool. So, at first glance, their coats might seem similar. But don’t ...

The Adventures of Milky Way: Our Fence-Escaping Bull Calf

The Adventures of Milky Way
Yesterday, as we were leaving, I noticed something unusual – Milky Way, our bull calf, was actually lying in the field with his herd mates. Now, you’re probably thinking, “What’s odd about that?” Well, here’s the thing: Milky Way is usually out roaming the yard, having decided that the grass is greener on our side of the fence, and honestly, I have to agree with him.
A Master of Mischief
Milky Way’s escapades have become so frequent that we’ve pretty much given up on putting him back in the pasture. Over the past few weeks, he’s turned our yard into his personal playground. One day, we caught him licking the salt off the truck – apparently, he’s developed a taste for more than just grass. Another time, we found him cozied up next to the stack of hay in the barn, looking as comfortable as can be. He’s even been spotted eating hay straight off the trailer, helping himself like it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet. But my favorite moment? Seeing him standing just outside the fence, watching his herd mates with a calm, almost supervisory air, as if he’s keeping tabs on them from the outside.
The Little Houdini of the Herd
His constant jailbreaks have turned into a bit of a running joke around here. No matter how many times we think we’ve secured the fence, Milky Way finds a way out. He’s like a little Houdini in cow form, always one step ahead of us. At this point, we’re starting to wonder if he’s trying to send us a message – maybe the fence isn’t up to his standards, or maybe he just enjoys the thrill of the escape.
An Adventurous Spirit
Despite his wandering ways, Milky Way never strays too far. He always seems to find his way back to the herd eventually, as if his adventures are just temporary detours. Perhaps he’s simply exploring his surroundings, or maybe he’s asserting his independence. Whatever the reason, his antics have added a hefty dose of entertainment to our daily routine. There’s never a dull moment with Milky Way around!
